Bradley Bayou's Science of Being Sexy

Welcome to my first blog for StyleList's Shape Your Style. I think it's important to state up front that I am not a stylist. I don't intend to tell you what the latest fashion trend is or what designers are hot, or anything to do with what the must-have is this week.

I do intend to tell you what looks best on you according to your body shape and size, what silhouettes look good on your particular shape and size, what trends will work on you to make you feel confident about your shape and size, and how you can feel sexy no matter what your shape and size.

How do I know how to do this? Because I am a fashion designer who has been blessed to have dressed some of the most influential women of all shapes and sizes (like Queen Latifah, below) for the most important occasions in their lives.

These Boots Are Made for Walking

Special to Stylelist by MEGHAN CLEARY

Winter Boots You Can Actually Wear in the Snow

Winter boot shopping can be tricky. While you want to look cute, mincing around town on stilettos navigating piles of dirty snow and perilous 'black' ice isn't exactly the move. And let's not even talk about trying to fit soccer-playing calves past some of the season's skinny knee-high silhouettes. That's why we've put together a list of season-friendly styles that are not only gorgeous, but practical.

1. Franco Sarto "Edizione" Stretch Riding Boot

Franco Sarto comes to the rescue for the most common boot conundrum -- the uncompromising calf -- solving this problem with the one size fits all Nappa stretch leather. Pair this classic with some cable-knit tights and a denim mini, or try a longer skirt for a more classic look.

2. Jeffrey Campbell Ankle Boots

Bypass the calf issue altogether with a cute pair of ankle boots. These anklets work well with a suit or jeans, and the bow at the back makes it a great choice for a simple holiday outfit. They're also small enough to throw in your bag if you want to protect these leather kickers from snow-melting salt.

3. Adidas Snow Chic Hi Boots

Sneaker-soled snow boots are perfect for trudging through piles of powder because you're less apt to slip on icy patches. Rock these with body-skimming jeans and a puffy parka to complete the snow-bunny look.

4. Kate Spade tan faux fur 'Alaska' Boot

Access your inner 'Abominable Snow Woman' with these delicious boots. The rubber sole makes maneuvering across town comfortable and quick while the fluffy faux fur adds fun kick to any casual outfit.

5. BCBGirls Labany boot

The sturdy heel on these shearling boots make it a great choice for daily winter wear. The braided accents and button detail add a touch of luxe to tucked in skinny jeans and a little Wuthering Heights-esque romance when paired with a long skirt.

Wedge heels are a great winter option because you can get the height you love from stilettos with the stability of the full heel. These look great under a pair of suit pants, or a pencil-skirt.
Flats or low heels are the safest bet when you want to wear a more formal look on snowy days. Work the neutral olive green color of this classic riding boot style by pairing them with brown tights, a tweed skirt, and an earth-toned cashmere sweater -- or wear your favorite jeans over them for a little peek of toe color.

8. Christian Dior Cognac Distressed Leather Boot

Thigh-high boots aren't only for the long-legged among us. You can actually create the slimming illusion of length when you wear with a tucked-in pair of tight jeans or a winter mini.

9. BCBG Max Azria 'Ilke' Over-the-Knee Boots

The long legs of these tall boots give your legs another barrier against the brrr. Fold over the cuff to adjust the length and add a little metallic flash to your outfit.

10. Ugg Patchwork Classic Tall

Say what you want about Uggs, but these shearling lined boots can't be beat on those cold as ice, 10" and above snow days. Pair these with your favorite pair of jeans and that impenetrable winter coat.

Women: One Hair Color Has Most Sex

A German professor claims that women with this hair color have the most sex.

Of all women, redheads have the most sex. Although he doesn't explain exactly how he came up with this dubious conclusion, sex researcher and professor Dr. Werner Habermehl of the Hamburg Medical Research Institute in Hamburg, Germany says he examined the sex lives of hundreds of German women and compared the findings to their hair color, specifically red, blonde and brunette.

Hair Extensions: In case you were wondering ...
Depending on your hair type and budget, you have some options when it comes to instant hair gratification. Waiting for your hair to grow out is for suckers, say extension enthusiasts.
Clip-ons are cheap and can be purchased at most drugstores. Sometimes they are attached to hats and not meant to be worn seriously. Please make this decision carefully.
Interlocking hair extensions are woven into your actual hair and cost a few hundred bucks. Your natural hair must be at least 5 inches, and once they're in, they're good for about 4 months.
Fusion extensions are chemically bonded to your hair and are arguably the most natural looking. These can cost several thousand dollars and last around 5 months.

The Best Bras for Summer's Strapless Styles

Special to Stylelist by Tara Trombetta, SHEFINDS.com

Shopping for this summer's most stylish shirts and tops is easy. Finding a bra to wear with them isn't. Take this helpful shopping list with you when you're bra-hunting online or off, and you'll know exactly what to buy for every tee, blouse and dress this summer has to offer.

For Strapless Dresses, Bandeau Tops and Off-the-Shoulder Styles ...

You'll need the highest quality, seamless, strapless bra that literally disappears under clothes. Get the best you can afford since you'll wear these bras time and time again under tight bandeaus and more forgiving strapless numbers. Skip the bandeau style bras unless you're small -- anyone with a B cup or bigger can always benefit from an underwire.

The Hint Of Skin Strapless Bra by Felina ($38) pictured above is an excellent choice for most sizes and situations, including slinky shapes and form-fitting styles. It offers seam-free support via a hidden underwire and boning, plus it features light coverage memory foam cups to give your ladies the perfect shape sans slippage.

Small bust? A touch of inconspicuous padding is key and we found it in the Dream Strapless Push-up Bra by Maidenform ($25.60) that boosts and shapes like a dream.

Well endowed? We suggest this Va Bien Strapless Convertible Bra ($55) available in up to a G cup that comes complete with extra stay-put silicone strips, plus an underwire and boning for increased support.

What Do You Want Your Perfume to Smell Like?

In our quest to find the best perfumes for spring and summer, we noticed that most fragrance companies aim to have their scents smell like flowers or fruits. The question is, do you really want to smell like a bowl of fruit or a Mother's Day bouquet?

Scents and Sensibilities: New Marketing Initiatives Stop Spritzing So You Can Smell for Yourself

Special to Stylelist by ZANDILE BLAY

Remember the last time a quiet stroll through your local department store attracted a gaggle of fragrance-spritzing sales associates your way? We're guessing you didn't enjoy the experience and so are perfume companies. Finally.

In response to the ineffectiveness of spray tests at fragrance counters and paper scent strips in magazines, perfume companies are unleashing less aggressive yet more sophisticated ways for customers to experience their fragrance. Among them is the ScentTester, an interactive sampling kiosk.

The machine, developed by ScentTest Communications, allows you to voluntarily smell a fragrance by pushing a button. Similar double-sided advertising displays have also debuted across the country. In addition to showcasing pictures of the fragrance, these displays automatically diffuse the scent in the immediate area, so you can see and smell the fragrance simultaneously.

Traditional magazine scent strips have not been left behind either. Instead, they've been upgraded into ScentSeal's, a technology pioneered by Arcade Marketing, which seals a sample of the fragrance in a small foil packet, and allows you to experience a more authentic version of the fragrance. This is the primary benefit behind another breakthrough fragrance marketing technology: The ScentPak.

The Scentpak is a cushion-shaped satchel that releases a soft puff of fragrance when squeezed, and lasts for up to six months -- or 50,000 squeezes. Giant fragrance manufacturer Coty, which produces popular scents like ckONE and Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker, is already scheduled to debut ScentPak samples of their fragrances at selected Target stores.

According to Theresa Molnar, executive director of the Sense of Smell Institute, these techniques which emphasize experiencing the fragrance versus star-studded ad campaigns is what increasingly savvy perfume buyers need.

"I don't care who the celebrity is. If customers don't like the fragrance, they are not going to buy it. Before, people didn't realize that perfumes smell different on everyone. Now, the consumer is more educated."

(Brad Barket, Getty Images)

Julee Wilson -- who regularly rotates between nearly 100 perfumes -- is this educated consumer.

"I like to walk into a store and really look for a fragrance by myself," Julee says, "I think it's a truly personal experience that needs to happen on your own time and void of simply opening a strip in a magazine."

Pamela Peckerman, owner of bagtrends.com, shares those sentiments. "Packaging and presentation is important," she says, "but it ultimately comes down to the smell."

Trendy T-Shirts You Can Afford

Special to Stylelist by MEGHAN RABBITT

Move over Hanes cotton classic. There's a new batch of T-shirts lining store shelves, and they're more graphic, stylish, artistic -- and pricey -- than ever before. "With so many brands and styles to choose from, consumers are willing to pay more for not only quality, but also uniqueness," says Shelly Chaney, vice president of marketing for Michael Stars, an upscale designer who has a line of tees. "More than anything, people want versatility -- they want to be able to wear something to the office as well as out after work or at home on the weekend."

But just because you can't afford a closet full of $400 tees doesn't mean you can't get in on the trend. Here are six picks under $100. It's Tee Time!

The Graphic Tee

This Old Navy cotton tee ($12.50) is soft, doesn't cling and comes in more than a dozen cute styles. For this price, we'll take one of each.

The Statement Tee

Make a stylish political statement in GAP's Inspi(red) T-shirt. Fifty percent of the profits from the sale of this $28 top go to the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.

The Retro Tee

Lucky Brand may be known for their jeans, but Lucky's current range of tees -- for both women and men -- include graphics featuring everything from throwback cartoons to old school bands. Prices range from $38-$54.

The Preppy Tee

LaCoste's new $69 polo -- in brighter colors and figure-hugging fits -- turned an old country club standby into a classic among the young, preppy set.

The Fitted Tee

Michael Stars Crossover V Tee, Marsh (Army Green)

With prices ranging from $25-$75, Michael Stars tees come in a variety of styles in the label's signature ultra-soft cotton. "We want to remain true to the classic basics and at the same time, give customers the trends that are in high demand," says Shelly.

The As Seen on "X" Celebrity Tee

Morphine Generation's tees ($88) are a staple at celebrity shopping hotspots (like Kitson in L.A.) and for good reason: Their "burn-out" line is made from 100 percent cotton that's been shaved to give it a thinner, cooler texture and look.

The Limited Edition Tee

Jamie "JRV" Valhouli considers his hand-printed t-shirts and hoodies moving canvases for his original artwork -- all of which he sells as limited edition prints as well. Inspired by his first year living in Los Angeles, where the artist is now based, the Lost Angels tee ($42) pictured here "exploit[s] the living paradox that is the City of Angels," Jamie explains.
